‘Matriculation studies creates opportunities’

Education

MATRICULATION studies are very important because it creates many opportunities and connects the people to the education system of the country, Prof Joseph Lingawa says.
Lingawa, during Divine Word University’s (DWU) first matriculation graduation in Mt Hagen, said people should not give up but press on because there was a way out.
He described matriculation studies as a “bridge” that connected people to the education system and they should not miss it because they still had a chance of making it through.
Lingawa told the 12 pioneer graduates that they had proved that they could make it.
He said that the DWU matriculation centre, located at the Holy Trinity Teachers College (HTTC), was producing 12 people and this practice must go on.
“If you cannot get into the first door then there is always another door to make it through.”
Lingawa said people who were doing nothing at home could also study because they still had a long way to go.
HTTC governing council chairman Hugo Kop said this was the way forward because without education, people could not communicate in the modern world.
He said that this system of education gave the people a second chance to move on in life.
HTTC principal Michael Miamel said education never stopped but it all depended on the people to decide how they want their future to become.
