MBA alumni to be launched

 THE University of Papua New Guinea MBA Alumni Association will be launched on Friday at the Dynasty Restaurant.

UPNG MBA Alumni president Stephen Sallun said today’s leaders in business organisations, the public service and the nation as a whole must invest in life-long learning to face the challenges of the new millennium, as well as, position themselves, their organisations and “our country at an advantage to capitalise on the opportunities of this millennium”.

The association will unveil the alumni’s strategic plan that includes the vision and mission statements and objectives; branding that includes logo, publications and merchandise; website and year book page; and acknowledged the founders of the UPNG Executive MBA programme. 

The UPNG MBA Alumni Association aims to involve embracing innovative, appropriate and affordable programmes and interactions to meet the demands of the PNG Business Community and others at large.

The executive MBA and the executive MBA-CPA programmes offered by the school of business administration at UPNG are designed to prepare candidates for these regional and global challenges.

UPNG vice-chancellor and school of business administration former executive dean Professor Albert Mellam said UPNG’s MBA programme is a home grown with strategic fit to the needs and challenges from domestic pressures and globalisation. 

In 2010 the MBA candidates formed an interim executive committee to prepare and progress the incorporation of the UPNG MBA Alumni Association which was incorporated in Port Moresby on Oct 11, 2011. 

Sallun said the UPNG MBA  Alumni Association will play a vital role in fostering a unique partnership between and among its Alumni, industry player, the government and UPNG’s  School of Business Administration where information derived from research, acquisition of new knowledge, implementation of laws, policies and world class business practices are mutually shared to advance the development agenda of PNG particularly, Pillar One of PNG’s Vision 2050 on Human Capital Development, Gender, Youth and People Empowerment and Pillar Two on Wealth Creation and Natural Resources Management. 

Executives of the association include Charlie Gilichibi (vice president), Ruse Loi Tamarua (secretary) and Patrick Urum (treasury) with Salome Rihatta, Timothy Irinaya, Stephen Damien, Leonie Rakanangu, Karo Lelai, Kevin Luana, Yaqub Amaka and Raymond John as committee members.
