BORENOMU Panthers centre and skipper Vollie Mea scored two tries in their 18-10 win over competition leaders Nahua Waves in round five of the Gaire rugby league on Saturday.

Both teams registered their first points through successful penalty conversions to Panthers rookie five-eighth Segala Dogo Jnr and Haoda Tau.

The Panthers skipper then took matters into his own hands to score his first try in 20 minutes in spectacular fashion after running onto a timely cut-out pass from half-back Samoa Dogo. The Panthers kept up pressure to see winger Ludgar Rea scoring their second try to lead 10-2.

This instigated a late fight-back before half-time that finally saw the Panthers brick-wall defence cracking for Waves winger Igo Kema to score their only try before the break.

The Panthers led 10-6 at half-time.

The Panthers hard-working forwards in Tau Kala, Sibona Mou, Nao Kala, Manau Sibona, Samson Hota, Manu Keveti and inter-change Paul Ronnie, Razz Kinibo, Mick Oafaisa came through in a big way to pepper the Waves defence-line with their repeated bombardment.

That saw the wiry Mea scoring his second try, when he pounced on a Waves loose ball to stretch their lead to 14-6.

Mauri Keveti sealed the win with another try.
