PNG Prime Minister’s 13 captain David Mead, pictured, says it is always a big honour lead a national team and said he was excited at the side he had around him heading into tomorrow’s match against Australia.
“I’m very excited to be back on the team with the boys,” Mead said.
“Whether its a PM’s 13 game or test, I’m happy to represent PNG.
“What really excites me is playing in front of the home crowd.
“They cheer us from begining to end and make us give our best.”
Mead said Australia had a mix of experienced players and new players and said PNg needed to be defensively sound to have a chance of victory.
“The feeling in the camp is good; we are positive and looking forward for our game tomorrow,” he said.
“All the boys are training really well. Their attitude towards the training is impressive,” Mead, who missed the June test against Fiji, said. Mead acknowledged James Segeyaro for his deputising role.
He said Segeyaro was a leader and had a big say in how the team performed.
“James does not need a name tag to be a leader,” Mead said.
“He’s one our leaders and I’ll need his support on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, forward Wellington Albert said he would dedicate this game to former teammate Kato Ottio.
Albert said it was his greatest honor to be back home and play in front of the adoring home fans.
