Mead thrilled with win

BRISBANE Broncos winger and Papua New Guinea international David Mead says breaking a 13-game losing streak against Canterbury on Saturday was a thrill and boded well for the club.
The Kevin Walters-coached side ended their losing streak with a 24-0 win over the luckless Bulldogs in their round 3 clash at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday.
Mead told The National straight after the game that their round 4 clash against Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Friday was his focus despite his side’s first win of the season.
“It’s a great feeling to record my first win back in NRL,” he said.
“But I think the focus is on next week (this week).
“I look forward to playing the Storm. It’s a short turn around so preparations for that clash start now (Saturday).
“Melbourne are always a tough side to play against.”
Mead said he would not mind if he faced Kumul teammate and Melbourne centre Justin Olam on the same edge.
He said it would be great to see three Kumuls featured in that game.
“Obviously, me and Xavier Coates will be on one side.
“Olam is there too for Melbourne and it will be great to have a few Kumuls represented in that game.
“Melbourne are coming off back-to-back losses as well so it will be a great test for us (Broncos),” he said.
Meanwhile, Coates scored a double in the Broncos four-try haul against the Dogs. The 2006 premiers are in 10th place in the 16-team NRL ladder after round 3 while the Storm are in 11th spot.
Both sides have recorded a win and two losses respectively.
