MEDIA personnel in Western Highlands have been commended for exposing corruption and recording development in the province.
Western Highlands law and order chairman David Maip said on Monday at the Hotel Kimininga, the “media is a very important tool that has played a big role in driving development, exposing corruption, educating people on development and other issues affecting the country and the world and publishing positive stories for the nation’s development”.
Maip thanked media personnel for monitoring events in the province.
Speaking as the founder of the Mt Hagen Kona Kai concept, he said the media was a tool that had helped him greatly with positive reports about Mt Hagen city.
“You (media) have played a big role in order to make the concept become rooted and as the law and order chairman I want to say that you have contributed a lot,” he said.
“I want to take this time to thank you for what you have done so far.”
He said without the media no one would know what was happening in the province.
National Broadcasting Corporation Radio Western Highlands broadcasting officer Stanley Piel thanked Maip for recognising the media.
Piel said without the media the world would not know what was happening in the country and the province.
He said such acknowledgement would boost the morale of reporters and called on his colleagues to help make this year a success with positive reports.
