THE Media Pool Competition (MPC) is back after a year-long hiatus due to the Covid-19 global pandemic.
MPC will launch its 2021 season with its annual general meeting (AGM) in Port Moresby on Saturday.
MPC chairman Kepson Pundu said the agendas for discussion would include the chairman’s 2019 report, financial report, constitution and the election of new executives.
He said one important change in the MPC constitution was to now allow for elected executives to serve a full three-year term instead of the current one-year term. “There are other important changes proposed in the constitution, so I am encouraging all teams to be fully represented at the AGM to discuss and formally endorse these important pieces of the constitution to guide our competition going forward,” Pundu said.
He said more than 30 teams had already registered their interest to compete in the upcoming season which begins next month.
Pundu also confirmed that major sponsor South Pacific Brewery was keen on backing the competition again this year.
He said 2020 had been the first time in MPC’s 20-year history that a season had been called off.
“Like all sporting bodies, MPC was greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Pundu said.
“But we have also learned valuable lessons and will adopt new protocols to guide our competition from now on.”
