THE media in Lae were taken on a tour of the Covid-19 isolation facilities at Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium to be able to get first-hand information on how patients will be treated and taken care of.
Morobe health authority chief executive officer Dr Kipas Binga said the authority and the facilities were ready.
He said 37 additional staff had been trained and attached as casuals to the response team.
They joined the more experienced staff of 10 from the Angau Hospital.
“We are grateful to them for joining us and we hope that we’ll keep them ’till December and we’re working out to do that and this is part of what PHA of Morobe is doing in our preparation,” Binga said.
“We can take people anytime from now if there’s a positive patient.”
He said about 90 per cent of the patients would end up in the general floor that could cater up to 100 patients.
They have 25 beds to start with of which 10 are in the ICU ward and 15 in the general floor and have enough beds to cover the whole place if the need arises.
