A CATHOLIC priest has urged the mainstream media to report more on faith-based stories and inform the masses of issues affecting the country in a more positive way.
Salesians of Don Bosco East Asia Oceania regional social communications coordinator Fr Ambrose Pereira said the increase in negative news about the country has damaged its reputation.
“We are in a Christian country and we need to be looking at reporting more on the good news about the faith,” Pereira said.
“Sadly, many times in the media we see and hear of a lot of negative news about killings, violence and destruction.
“This type of negative news has clogged our minds and in turn a lot of people in the communities have negative attitudes as well.
“We need to be inspiring others through the media.
“By putting out more positive stories, we can inspire many others.”
He added that more focus should be given to the people making a difference at the community level.
“Many times we see that it is big men and the politicians who make the news, but there are many good stories about people doing remarkable things in their communities.
“They should be given more prominence so that they can inspire others,” Pereira said.
