POLICE Commissioner David Manning says the mainstream media is the key to help security forces deliver a free, fair and safe general election.
“The police and media partnership is, therefore, crucial for a successful general election,” he said.
He made this remarks at a “meet and greet” session between the media and senior police officers in the police officers’ mess at the Centre of Excellence in Bomana.
Manning said security forces would be more effective in their operations with the help of the media in disseminating correct and timely information.
The meeting coincided with the presentation of the body worn cameras donated by the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership commander Jamie Strauss.
Manning said cameras would help ensure more accountability and improved performance of policemen and women on duty.
Among those present at the presentation of cameras were Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Anthon Billie, Assistant Commissioners, senior officers and Australian officers.
