THE Wesleyan church of Papua New Guinea spent their Independence weekend in their own way by hosting a convention and discussing issues affecting families, youth development and Christian living.
The convention was held at 17-Mile, outside Port Moresby, from Sept 14-17 and it was attended by church members from all over the country with senior church elders travelling into the city from South Polu, Pangia district of Southern Highlands.
Pr Bernard Tame, on behalf of district superintendent Joel Impanda, said more than 500 members attended the event.
“Programmes were conducted day and night,” he said.
“Bible sessions on character development, family issues, youth development and Christian living were studied.”
South Wiru church council chairman Peter Koya said the church preached the doctrine of holiness in the sight of God.
He said in order to enter the kingdom of God people must keep themselves holy.
The convention, themed Children of God and God’s nature, was aimed to instil the teachings of holiness to their younger members so they could
continue to carry on the work of the church.
With 100 people committing their lives to God, Tame said with the success of this convention, they were looking forward to a bigger event next year.
