MEGUSA Sisters and M2 Mumuts recorded impressive wins in the Morata Offseason Rugby League women’s competition at the Kone Tigers Oval in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Sisters outplayed Mosquito Bites 16-0 and Mumuts beat Talapia Magpies 16-4. M3 Bulldogs forfeited Waga Rats who failed to show up.
Mumuts and the Willie Malabag-coached Sisters fielded several Port Moresby Rugby Football League players.
Sisters fielded former Papua New Guinea Orchid and veteran prop Brenda Goro, Mantex Pala, Elly Max, Elly Dobi, Eva Paul, Sandy Ibene, Sara Isa and Sandy Molumi.
Their tries were scored by Salita Rocky, Doboi and Molumi, and Paul kicked a goal.
Goro said she was helping the younger players in the side to develop their skills.
“It is good that women in Morata and Waigani are involved in rugby league to avoid social issues in their communities,” she said.
“I commend league president Samson Metofa for promoting gender equality and discouraging violence against women and girls.”
Mumuts fielded Maryanne Kua, Taime Jackson, Stella Charles and Shasha Williams.
Their tries came from Anita John, captain Kua and Joan Simon, and Jackson converted two goals.
In the other results yesterday, Top Street Hawks beat Northern Warriors 4-0, Guava Pirates defeated KK Vikings 12-0 and Mautana Roosters triumphed over M4 Eels 10-0.
Meanwhile, the match committee — headed by Fraka Kairi — warned coaches not to field players who were playing for more than one team.
Kairi said offending players would be removed from the competition.
League secretary John Mawe called on the coaches to register their names for a coaching clinic.
