Melonas, Kakanas facing off to represent capital at national titles

TWO trial matches for the Port Moresby men’s softball teams will be held this weekend as part of their preparation for the upcoming National Softball Championships in Lae.
The first trial match will between Melonas and Kakanas first teams who will take diamond one at noon on Sunday after the regular season B grade fixture between the Brown Eagles and Kilakila Cats.
The second trial match which see Melonas and Kakanas team twos face off in the main game of the afternoon.
Competition official Constantine Bais said the club games and two trials would take a two week break with the Easter long weekend coming up.
“We have double headers for only B graders and that gives us an time to focus mainly on our selected sides for their trials on Sunday so we can have all our top senior players just concentrate on testing themselves,” Bais said. “The trials will help us identify best players to represent the Port Moresby Softball Association at the national championships the following week.”
“On the regular Port Moresby season the competition is heading towards its finals with the national championships plus a few washout fixtures taking place over the next two or three weekends before we’re ready to go into finals mode.”
Bais said the last round round of A grade matches that had been deferred were Yokomo v Brown Eagles and Bears v United Brothers clashes which would be played in mid-April.
