Papua New Guinea is privileged to be a member of the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) economies which make up 50 per cent of the world’s GDP, an Apec business advisory committee (Abac) official says.
Chairman of Abac and general manager for Steamships corporate affairs David Toua yesterday called on members of the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry to be a part of this Apec process.
“The Apec economies’ family and the rest of the globe are going to be here throughout the year, with eyes on what PNG is doing and what we can offer,” he said.
“It’s incumbent on all the stakeholders in PNG to get into this process.
“If we do it right, we are going to look back and see what we have achieved from 2018.
“There is an urgent need to ensure that the legacy of Apec 2018 is lasting and durable, and will positively impact the lives of the people of PNG.”
Abac PNG secretariat is in the process of inviting sponsorship for events that will advance PNG’s interest in the regional and globally.
It will host a food security symposium in August jointly with Apec and ABAC titled, ‘efficiency in food production, farm gate to plight’.
“This will bring together leaders on agriculture productivity technology,” Toua said.
“There will be two panels in agriculture and fisheries to discuss cost-effective production, technology utilisation, global supply and demand and investment needs.”
Toua said a major SME symposium would be held in Port Moresby in September promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
