A MAGISTRATE has warned men to avoid polygamous relationships as they lead to social problems.
Magistrate Pious Tapil was presiding over a case in which two women who were his wives attacked each other.
Second wife Unagi Mili appeared before Tapil yesterday in the Lae Committal Court charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm on first wife Sirua Unagi at 9-Mile outside Lae this year.
Also in court was husband Heni Unagi, 42, from Goroka in Eastern Highlands.
Magistrate Tapil granted Mili a K1,500 bail with conditions that she avoid interfering with state witnesses, report to police every Tuesday and to attend her court cases when scheduled to.
Magistrate Tapil asked husband Unagi why his wives attacked each other. Unagi told the court said he was no longer living with first wife Sirua and was now married to Mili.
He said they were at their residence at 9-Mile when Sirua entered the gate and fought with Mili.
Magistrate Tapil warned him that polygamy was becoming common and contributing to a lot of social problems.
The case was adjourned to Oct 14.
