Mendi airport to undergo K28 million makeover

MENDI airport will undergo a K28 million maintenance work programme including pavement strengthening, construction of a new terminal building, extension of the airfield and other works.
The project comes under the Asian Development Bank programme.
Civil Aviation Minister Alfred Manase, whose Kandep district shares the border with Mendi-Muinhu district, told people to take ownership of what the government was providing them.
He told them to stop taking the law into their own hands and stop destroying State properties.
Works Minister Michael Nali said the country was experiencing changes and the people of Mendi and Southern Highlands should also change.
Mendi Airport is situated in the centre of Mendi town.
Those who attended the launch included the chairman of the National Airport Corporation Ruben Aila, PNG Power chairman Peter Nupiri, the Vice-Minister for Petroleum Alfred Manase and provincial administrator Joseph Cajetan.
