Kumuls forward keeping it simple as he pushes for first-grade berth

TOWNSVILLE Blackhawks recruit Moses Meninga says he is eager to learn from his senior teammates while pushing for a National Rugby League (NRL) spot at the North Queensland Cowboys feeder club.
The Blackhawks are not short of NRL experience with Josh Hoffman (Parramatta Eels, Gold Coast Titans and Brisbane Broncos), Patrick Kaufusi (Cowboys, Melbourne Storm and St George Illawarra Dragons) and Sione Lousi (New Zealand Warriors) bolstering the side.
Papua New Guinea Kumuls playmaker Kyle Laybutt is also another player with NRL experience, having made two appearances for the Cowboys.
Kumuls forward Meninga told The National last week that the Queensland Intrust Super Cup club had a clear pathway to the NRL.

“My short-term goals at the Blackhawks are simple,” said the 28-year-old former SP Hunters captain, who joined the Townsville-based club in December.
“I aim to train hard, play every game injury-free and learn as much as I can from the coaching staff and my teammates with NRL experience.
“The Blackhawks system is a pathway to the Cowboys.
“They have the Under-18s, U20s, the senior Blackhawks and then the Cowboys.
“The pathway is clear.
“They all learn the same things in those divisions so it’s easy for the juniors to work their way up.
“I’m fortunate to be part of the system.
“Playing in the NRL is a dream of mine and it’s worth trying.”
Meanwhile, the Blackhawks are working to retain Meninga – who turns 29 next month – for next year following the cancellation of this season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
