ACCOUNTABILITY and professionalism in the administration of the Mermaids Netball Club has enabled it to grow, allowing it to foster and develop players.
Five of the club’s players — Jeperth Tulapi, Rayleen Andrew, Tau Galewa and Carol Kanapoti — were part of the PNG Pepes that won gold at the Pacific Mini Games last November.
Mermaids coach Richanda Kassman said the club strived to conduct itself and professionally.
“Ensuring good governance and accountability and having strong values and aspirations has been a step by step process,” Kassman said.
“Our administration and youth programme have benefited from this approach.”
The club’s commitment to good governance and accountability saw the renewal of a 25-year-old partnership with Lae Biscuit Company under their Snax brand.
The company gave the club K40,000 for 2018.
“The sponsorship will enable us to support the players in terms of training and some medical assistance.
“It’s not something that many clubs can do so we’re happy.”
Lae Biscuit regional sales manager Lacey Ori said the company was encouraged by the club’s great record on and off the court.
“The club has grown over the years and has shown the ability to develop talent so we’re happy to be involved in netball through the the Mermaids,” Ori said.
