The Papua New Guinea billiards and snooker fraternity is in mourning following the death of its president Peter Fong.
PNG Billiards and Snooker Association vice-president John Chan, in statement, said Fong, pictured, passed away early yesterday morning after a massive asthmatic attack in Kavieng.
“I received a phone call very early this morning from Kavieng that Peter passed away following a massive asthmatic attack,” Chan said.
“It is very sad indeed to hear of this news and to pass it on to all our billiards and snooker members around Papua New Guinea is even harder.”
Fong won several Moresby and Alotau open titles as well as the coveted Papua New Guinea national snooker titles.
He was serving his seventh two-year term as president of Papua New Guinea Billiards and Snooker Association.
“This is a great loss to our sport in Papua New Guinea and in the region,” Chan said.
“Fong had ensured the growth and popularity of the sport in the country.
“On behalf of every billiards and snooker player, referees, administrators, sponsors and supporters, I convey our sincere sympathies and condolences to his wife and family on the passing of her husband, their father, grandfather and the Fong families in Papua New Guinea and overseas.
“May God comfort you all during this time.”
Late Fong is survived by his wife Carmel, two sons Nathan and Krispin and three grandchildren.
Funeral details will be released in due course.
