A FEMALE student from East Cape Primary School in Milne Bay was reportedly raped on Christmas day by a group of men.
Provincial police commander Lincoln Gerari confirmed the incident but said details were “sketchy”.
He said police were informed by a councillor by phone on Tuesday and officers were dispatched to investigate the matter.
“This is a serious case and we will work to establish what happened,” Gerari said.
He said 53 people had been arrested and charged over the festive period for drunkenness and drug-related offences.
“Thirty-eight people were arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly while another 15 people were charged with drug-related offences.
“I’m predicting things will get out-of-hand by New Year,” Gerari said.
He urged youths to refrain from drinking homebrew.
He said the brew could have negative consequences which includes the damage done to their health.
Gerari warned that police would not tolerate anyone disturbing the peace during New Year celebrations in the province.
