Minibus kills seven-year-old on highway

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD school girl was killed when she was run over by a minibus while walking home from school on Friday.
The girl was killed on the spot in the accident that occurred in one of Mekeo villages along the Hiritano Highway.
“Relatives and tribesman tore the minibus and have blocked off the road in frustration. Central police came in and spoke with our people, basically, they have given us two options on how to proceed.
“One is to release the body to them (police) to be taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem and for police investigations. The other was for the minibus owner to compensate us,” the girl’s aunt said.
“Police have told us that the owner is willing to come this Thursday and pay a belkol to the family.
The aunt who did not want to be named said the family wanted a police investigation so that the driver of the minibus can be held accountable for his reckless driving.
