Minimum wage rate

Letters

ALL security firms operating in the country should be checked by the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations on whether they comply with the minimum wage rate of K3.52 per hour.
I am sure three-quarters of those firms do not comply and instead pay them rate ranging from K2.50, K2.70, K2.90 and K3.00
I know of one firm in Port Moresby that pays on the rate of K2.50 and K2.90. I work with this firm and I am being paid K2.90 rate per hour. I am willing to produce my pay slip for verification purpose.
Considering the inflation rate in the country, firms should strictly abide by laws and regulations of this country.
Since the concerned authorities are not doing anything, security firms are taking advantage and paying at much lesser rate.
Not only that, foreign owned shops are paying PNG nationals at K2, K2.50, K2.60 rate. This is far below the expected pay.
This has been overlooked for many years and a corrective measure needs to be taken.
Taking back PNG should start with small things such as this.
And to make PNG become the black richest nation in the world in ten years’ time, citizens of this nation should be well paid, well fed, become healthy and looked after well because they will contribute to meet the above theme achievable.
