THERE is a growing concern over the exodus of national and expatriate academics at the four universities, Minister for Higher Education Delilah Gore says.
Gore was speaking at the launching of the teachers’ salary review that the Salaries and Monitoring Committee had failed to address this growing issue.
She told the committee to look into the issue and report to her on:
Why state universities are unable to attract and retain national academics;
The dual salary system;
The current levels of salary and working conditions of academics;
The review of salary rfor state universities; and,
Housing of an acceptable standard for academics at economic rentals to be provided
for by the university.
The Salary Review team comprises Michael Pearson, Lucas Michael, Lawrence Titimur and Dr Leo Marai.
She urged all stakeholders
and departmental heads to
assist the process by supplying the review team with data for the report.
Chairman Pearson said Gore had seen that something must be done to improve the higher education sector through the review.
