Minister attacked by woman when trying to stop fight

COMMUNITY Development, Youth and Religion Minister Wake Goi says a woman attacked him when he intervened to stop her fighting with a man.
“The woman was fighting with a man in front of the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby,” Goi said. “So I stopped the car and went out to stop the fighting.
“The women turned around and fought with me.
“She didn’t know that I am the minister (responsible for addressing gender-based violence) and I was trying to help her from getting beaten up by the man. These are challenges in addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in the country.
“Sometimes the victim who is the female takes her husband to court on gender-based-violence charges.
“But then she withdraws the case because her husband is the only bread winner.
“Or he is a violent man because when he completes his term in jail, he will come and kill her.”
Goi, also Jimi MP, related the story in Parliament on Thursday during the debate on the GBV report.
