MINISTER for Agriculture John Boito has committed K100,000 to the Wantok Produce Limited and National Agricultural Research Institute Enterprise Limited to support the export of taro.
Boito, who is also the Obura-Wonenora MP, made the commitment as the Government’s support for the informal sector, particularly agriculture.
The two entities will be exporting frozen taro to the New Zealand market starting this month.
“This initiative not only enhances the taro industry, but also creates new job opportunities and stimulates economic growth,” he said.
“In addition, this project is consistent with the government’s objective of achieving sustainable economic growth and development for the benefit of all citizens.”
The agricultural sector is instrumental in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“Through the promotion of local food production such as taro and the creation of job opportunities, we contribute to the overall development and advancement of the country,” he said.
