COMMUNITY Development, Youth and Religion Minister Wake Goi says he has received a submission from Unggai-Bena for a disability centre.
Responding to Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allen in Parliament yesterday, Goi said there were needs by everyone to be met and it would depend on the officers working on the budget.
He confirmed that the submission was given from the Department of National Planning who passed it on to his department.
“In recent times, I have travelled to a few provinces and it is true that we need proper centres for persons with disabilities,” Goi said. He said the submission was in the process but it depended on those who were working on the budget if they could accommodate it.
“I believe there are many needs in Bulolo, Maprik, Lae and Port Moresby,” Goi said.
“We tried to accommodate everyone’s request at Finance and Treasury departments and it had added to a huge amount.
“At least we have submitted but because there was increase in the public investment programme projects, we are expecting some cuts so if it happens then we just have to accept it.” Allen said his district planned to build the centre to look after all persons with disability.
“We want to create this centre to care for the persons living with disabilities,” he said.
“This centre would cater for all the persons living with disabilities in the Highlands and Mamose regions.”
