Minister to work with Parkop, Kaupa to address land issues

MINISTER of Lands and Physical Planning John Rosso will work with NCD Governor Powes Parkop and Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa to address land issues in and around Port Moresby.
Rosso told Parliament yesterday that land being disputed at Bushwara settlement was owned by Nambawan Super.
Kaupa wanted to know why Nambawan Super had not developed the land over many years.
He said as a result, people had settled on the land and built permanent homes and structures.
He said Nambawan Super had issued eviction notices and begun evicting some of the settlers.
Rosso said land was a big problem in the city. “We have a huge problems in the urban centres because we have not freed up enough land or planned enough suburbs for our citizens,” he said.
“The problem with Bushwara is a big issue with nearly 20,000 people living on the land.
“This is compounded by the fact that Nambawan Super holds the legal title to the land. We cannot correct one wrong by taking away the land from them. They are currently the lease holders of that land.
“I have had discussions with Member Kaupa and Governor Parkop and we will try to resolve this matter through amicable means, taking into account ordinary Papua New Guineans who have settled at Bushwara.”
