THE Enga Mioks are aiming for long-term success and a spot in the Digicel Cup top-six after securing their second win of the season over the Kimbe Cutters on Sunday.
Newly-appointed co-coach Andiki Andrew told The National yesterday that he and player-coach Roger Laka would use the remaining three rounds to revise the Mioks’ programmes.
“Our focus now is not so much about making the top-six and reaching the finals,” he said.
“What Laka and I discussed was how we were going to prepare the Mioks for next season by analysing the players’ current performance.
“We identified a few problems at training and told the players to do the simple things right.
“We didn’t change anything but we just needed to correct our attitude, improve discipline and play with more determination.
“If we make the finals then it’s a bonus for us.
“But we will make a few changes, mend the missing links and build more confidence in the side.”
Meanwhile, Andrew commended Laka’s decision to take the field.
“I’m really happy for him,” he said after their 18-10 win over the Cutters at the Lae Rugby League Ground.
“The leadership he has on and off the field is priceless.
“We’ve given the responsibility to SP Hunters pair Rhadley Brawa and Willie Minoga to mentor our younger players and take the lead.
“That’s what got us the result against the Cutters.”
The Mioks face bottom club Mt Hagen Eagles, who remain the only side without a win after eight rounds, in the 12-team competition, in Lae on Sunday (1pm kick-off).
