Mioks hooker leads side to big win over Isou

HOOKER Woods Kawage played a starring role for the Enga Mioks in their 36-16 win over the Gulf Isou during their Digicel Cup round 4 match yesterday.
The dynamic No.9 was a thorn in the side of the Isou whoi struggled to contain his snipes from dummy half throughout the match at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The win continues the Mioks unbeaten run in the competition.
Kawage said he was allowed to play his game because of the disciplined performance of his teammates who followed the game plan laid down by coach Timothy Lepa.
“We are building on our discipline on and off the field and the boys followed the game plan today with everything working out for us,” Kawage said.
“I thought Roger (Laka) was really good for us at five-eighth. He has a lot of experience and really directed us well which made my job easier.” The Mioks took an unassuming 12-6 lead into halftime but dominated the second 40 minutes adding a further four tries to their two in their first half.
Captain Supa Kokote ignited their rugged pack which included noted hit-up merchant Kot Kerowa, former Hunters squad member Eddy Daffa, Lee James and Emmanuel John as well as youngster Garry Ware who combined to get the upper hand on a willing Isou pack. Mioks haves Laka and Nathan Milie orchestrated the Engan’s charge second half showing their experience at Digicel Cup level.
Isou skipper Moore Evara and Joel Torombo lacked support despite continuously bending the Mioks line while their halves Jeffrey Para and Simon Alana were flat and lacked the creativity and wherewithal to capitalize on their opportunities. Mioks coach Lepa said he was pleased that they had shown their class and quality against the Isou while his opposite Collin Geno lamented his side’s lack of cohesion and drive.
“This is a match that has really made us to realise that we have to work much harder if we want to achieve our goals,” Geno said.
