Miss PNG must make her presence felt

Letters, Normal

I REFER to the letter “Congrats, Miss PNG” by “Puzzled well wisher” (The  National, Aug 13).
Firstly, I would like to congratulate Miss BSP on her outstanding win and those who supported her.
The writer is right to say that previous Miss PNG winners went into hiding after being crowned until the next crowning night.
I urge Miss PNG 2010 to prove the writer wrong and make her presence felt, especially on environmental issues.
The writer must not be misled by the word “bank”.
BSP is more than a bank.
As the leading bank, BSP must be commended for taking up the responsibility to address the challenges of climate change by not only sponsoring but employing Rachel Sapery James, a marine biologist, as the social and environmental management systems officer.
From her profile published in the papers, it is clear that she is helping to develop environmental awareness and behaviour change programme within the bank.
Good luck Miss PNG and we hope you win the Miss South Pacific Pageant in November.
