WITH only a week before the Miss South Pacific Pageant, Miss PNG Grace Nugi says it has been a challenging time but is looking forward to being PNG’s cultural ambassador.

“Papua New Guinea has such a rich and diverse culture, and being given the opportunity to represent PNG is a really big honour and a challenge because I have that huge responsibility now to singularly represent this culture,” Nugi said.

Miss South Pacific Pageant will be staged in Apia, Samoa, from Dec 14 to 21 and will see eight beauties compete for the title.

“I’d love to wow the judges in the public speaking category. I think that will be my strength,” she said.

She hopes to score well in the traditionally-inspired category given PNG’s cultural background.

A Miss PNG has not worn the crown in the past decade and Papua New Guineans can help her win the Miss Internet Award by “liking” her picture on the Miss South Pacific Pageant – Official.Pageon Facebook.

Nugi, 24, comes from Chimbu, Western Highlands and Jiwaka and has a degree in marine biology from the University of PNG. She is doing her honours with the Wildlife Conservation Society in Goroka.

“The pagent is a worthy cause because I believe in educating women.

“Education is the way forward for PNG and we need an educated younger generation for change.”
