Why mistreat PNG women?

Letters

Just last week ago in Goroka, a female employee of an Asian shop was ordered by the owner to undergo a body check.
The body check was done by an Asian woman.
The body check was done in a way that the female employee’s private parts were searched.
The Papua New Guinea woman employed by the Asian shop was accused of stealing some cash.
A check by security cameras revealed nothing.
The body check also revealed nothing.
The traumatised woman was sadly not released.
She was threatened by the Asian shop owner that she would be arrested and charged.
This was after going through two different methods of search with no proof of evidence.
She was detained in their custody at that Asian shop until 7.45pm and released, after being found out that she did not take any money whatsoever.
She had to walk a long distance, braving incidents that might happen to her, as she walked alone that night.
She arrived home at 8.30pm.
While all this was going on, her baby back at the house was suffering from hunger and deprived of breast milk.
This case was reported to the police to handle on Jan 18.
An officer on duty that day who handled this case, was removed by a senior officer with who arrived in a white Landcruiser.
The case was kicked out by police on Friday, Jan 19.
Where in the world is Goroka, Eastern Highlands, and Papua New Guinea heading?
Does the female employee have rights to be protected by the very people who are supposed to treat this case fairly and equally, without any favouritism?
Are our girls and women employed by Asians in Goroka safe from mistreatment?
This sort of behaviour isn’t new to this shop concerned.
It was done to another female employee prior to this case but never reported.
As such, the current case will be taken up with the courts for the sake of all women in Goroka, who are currently employed by Asians and those who would follow in future.
Our girls and women employed by Asians in Goroka need not suffer in silence.
They must come out and let it be known to the appropriate authorities if they’ve gone through such experiences.
If police are not up to their duty, then such matters must be directed to the Police Commissioner.
This plea now goes to the higher police hierarchy at police headquarters for an investigation to be carried out in relation to Asian and police personal “friendships” that exist in Goroka.
Violence against women and women’s rights have been greatly violated.
There must be justification for all girls and women in Goroka.
Let’s honour our womenfolk.
