Mobile phone SIM registration woes

Letters

The days are counting down for all unregistered mobile phone SIM cards to be deactivated.
We, the rural customers in Morobe, are still waiting for Digicel to send its SIM registration agents to our respective local level governments to get us registered.
Digicel has been failing us since NICTA’s announcement of the SIM registration rule.
Instead of sending a SIM registration agent to us, Digicel is continuing to send misleading message to our phones, as I quote: “Registerim SIM kad blo yu nao wantaim ol Digicel SIM Registrasen Agent klostu lo yu! Registrasen em free!” (Register your SIM card today with a Digicel SIM registration agent close to you! Registration is free).
This text message makes sense for urban customers but not for rural customers. Tewae/Siassi and Kabwum districts, for example, are not close to Digicel’s SIM registration agent in Lae. It’s true, Registration is free, but how about transport? Is it free?
It’s unfair that an urban customer spend between K1 and K10 to visit a Digicel agent while the poor people of the rural districts spend between K300 and K600, return, to travel just to register a SIM card in Lae.
Why Digicel?
