THE coronavirus (Covid-19) mobile vaccination programme in the National Capital District (NCD) started yesterday in a clinic in each of the districts, according to an official.
NCD health authority acting chief executive officer Dr Maru Garo said the mobile vaccination did not begin last week as announced due to issues with logistics.
He said now people could go to the Kaugere, 6-Mile and Tokarara clinics to get the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr Garo said last week that taking the vaccination to the clinics in each of the three districts of NCD (Moresby North East/West and South) was important as not many people were turning up for vaccination at the Rita Flynn complex.
“Around 300 to 400 people are coming through Rita Flynn daily and 90 per cent of them are corporate employees,” he said.
“We realise that the other important component of the population, which includes the unemployed and people in the settlements, suburbs or communities, are not coming.”
Dr Garo encouraged the people to come forward to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their family and people around them. When The National visited the site yesterday at Kaugere, the team was setting up the vaccination station to begin, at Gerehu Hospital, the team was there.

clinic and at 6-Mile the team had already vaccinated some people.

According to the vaccination lead at Gerehu, the vaccination will start next week there but the people of North West could go to Tokarara clinic.

The vaccination at the Rita Flynn complex is still open and people are encouraged to go where it is convenient for them.
