NURSES at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) have been reminded to perform their duties with pride and determination as it affects the hospital management.
Speaking at the International Nurses Day (IND) celebration on Friday, chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi said PMGH aimed to implement the National Health Plan with nursing duties a key component of that.
“We are expected to achieve one of the goals of the National Health Plan which is to be the national specialist referral and research hospital,” he said.
“The annual activity plan is underway and much of the information needed to implement the plan is from nursing duties.”
Dr Molumi said the plan was beneficial to the country as a whole which made PMGH management and staff responsible for the rest of the country apart from serving the National Capital District.
“We want to make sure that PMGH is the last stop for our patients around the country instead of seeking treatment in other provinces or even overseas,” he said.
“As we are strategically aligned with the University of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG) School of Medicine and Health Sciences, research should be our responsibility as well.”
The CEO said the corporate plan was built on the basis of nursing and as such PMGH was looking to invest in enhancing nursing manpower and performance in the country.
“We look forward to investing in sub-specialised training,” he said.
