Momis reclaims presidency

Grand Chief Dr John Momis has reclaimed his presidential seat in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville House of Representatives for a second term.

He polled 51,382 votes to be re-elected, beating runner-up ex-Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA) commander Ismael Toroama with 32,816 votes.

 Toroama polled 18,466 votes. 

The 2015 ABG general elecions counting was completed on Sunday after declaring two remaining seats.

Regional returning officer John Itanu declared Momis on Saturday, who defeated eight other candidates. 

At the completion of primary counts on Friday night, Momis had received 48,826 votes, 1476 votes short of 51302 absolute majority. 

 Momis was leading the race from the start of counting on May 30.

Ex-BRA general Sam Kauona and former Central Bougainville MP and Mining Minister Sam Akoitai settled for third and fourth placings with 14,965 and 11,523 votes respectively after the fourth and final exclusive process. 

Momis commended the Acting Bougainville Electoral Commissioner George Manu, his officers, external advisers and supporters involved in the successful elections, conducted by ABGs own electoral commission for the first time..

The third Bougainville House of Representative will be sworn into office on June 15 this month.
