Miss Madang crowned

 A 22-year-old nursing officer from the Modilon General Hospital was crowned Miss Madang 2015 during the Madang Festival on Friday.

The pageant was the feature of the two-day festival hosted by 1993 former Miss PNG Sharon Onsa.

Nursing officer Regina Tomtai, from Madang but of Milne Bay and Central parentage, was the judges’ choice for Miss Madang.

She was one of the eight contestants 

“Madang has alot to offer to tourists than the rest of the Pacific put together,” Tomtai said when answering questions from the judges.

She recommended tourists who wanted to enjoy bird watching to visit the Keki Forest located off the North Coast Road and the Ohu butterfly sanctuary south-west of Madang town. 

The pageant was held to raise funds for the museum and the tourist bureau which the provincial government stopped funding. 

Miss Divine Word University Zamika Ado was voted as people’s choice and runner-up was Miss Madang Resort Hotel Linda Bashan.

Festival committee chairman Richard Jones said K10,000 was raised from the event.
