ATHLETICS Papua New Guinea (APNG) has picked Adrine Monagi to represent the country at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Doha, Qatar, from Sept 27.
Monagi’s selection follows the withdrawal of Rellie Kaputin, who had sustained an injury during training last month.
Monagi’s personal best of 13.82 seconds in the 100m hurdles final won her silver at the Samoa Pacific Games in July. She finished behind Australia’s Brianna Beahan.
APNG commended Monagi for submitting a proposal seeking support for her programme next year and setting out her goals.
“It was good to see that Adrine had resumed training on Aug 5 after only two weeks’ break and this was a big plus in her favour as we considered our options,” APNG secretary Philip Rehder said.
Monagi, 24, has competed at the Commonwealth Youth Games, IAAF World Junior Championships, two Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games and Oceania Championships.
