Alotau working hard for netball meet

THE Alotau Netball Association is on track in its preparations for the National Netball Championships from Sept 18-23 in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
The association has been preparing its squads for the last five weeks with the aim of improving on last year’s performance.
Association president Hacy Abel said the focus this year was on quality rather than quantity.
“Hence, our small contingent of players for the championships,” she said.
Abel said she was happy with their preparations as they had a training programme being delivered by coaches who recently attended a Netball Papua New Guinea-run coaching initiative in Port Moresby.
The association has produced some great talent over the years and the focus of 2019 is to maintain their legacy particularly in the Under-17 and U21 teams, who will be key to Alotau’s success at the championships.
Abel acknowledged the Alotau district and Alotau Urban Local Level Government supporting all sports, including netball, annually.
Alotau boasts a membership of 400 players and officials mainly in the Alotau urban area.
