Moni Plus are prepared for the Papua New Guinea Basketball League season.
After taking part in the replay of last year’s grand final against KSS Flames on Saturday, coach Ferdinard Daroya said he was looking forward to a good season.
Despite his side losing 70-50, Daroya said he was happy with the side’s first hit-out after a month of training.
The match was to gauge the performance of his players, especially the newcomers.
Daroya thanked Flames manageress Vonnie Kapi Natto for the match.
“It gave us opportunity to test our new recruits,” he said.
“We are in a rebuilding process.
“Half the team are new players.”
He thanked his two assistant coaches JC Ibay and Bernard Elavo who ran the Flames match.
Daroya said he had recruited new players like Willie Tete, Michael Henry, Michael Osborn, Sydney Dobunaba, Anderson Hewe and Ryeon Delos Trinos
He said Moni Plus lost key player Orlando Daroya who is now back playing at MPBL in the Philippines.
Also departed were Rodel Vergara, Makie Montes and Constancio Lumingkit
Flames coach Moi Muri said despite the 20-point win, there was more room for improvement.
He said the club had retained the bulk of their players except for two new recruits from Moni Plus, Emmanuel Parapa and Gary Holmes.
“Both players have blended well with the old players and have added a new attacking sting to the team,” Muri said.
Apart from the new recruits, coach Muri praised experienced hands in Moses Lune, Apia Muri, Purari Muri, Obert Muri, Gabriel Mathew, Cornerlius Muri for leading the boys during the match.
The season is expected to toss up on Thursday afternoon.
