Mioks on top of things

ENGA Mioks coach Timothy Lepa has cautioned his side against getting carried away after a strong start to their 2018 Digicel Cup campaign.
The Mioks, who are the only unbeaten side after four rounds, lead the competition with fans starting to believe the unfancied side are now a genuine finals contender.
The franchise which is backed by the Enga provincial government has gone about a recruitment drive which started with the annual offseason competition the Ipatas Cup which helped Lepa pick up several fresh and exciting talents while he was able to secure the services of the majority of last year’s squad.
Added on to that the club was also able to get experienced props Esau Siune and Mark Mexico for the season which would have bolstered their stocks and confidence.
Lepa said the wins indicated how much improvement the side had made.
“Four straight wins is a big thing for us and that shows we’ve improved a lot,” Lepa said.
“We may be leading the competition but this is still early in the competition and anything can happen. We’ll wait until our next two games before we can tell how good our form is.
“We just completed the fourth round and we have another 14 rounds left before the finals.
“We’ll definitely try to maintain our position on the ladder by winning games.”
Lepa said after several seasons of mediocre results the Mioks had hit some form and he was hoping they could make it last.
“I guess we are now the side to beat. We’ll just have to make sure we win and compete hard.”
Lepa said his side would get a good indication of how good they were when they take on the Hela Wigmen in round 6 in Port Moresby and then host the Lae Tigers in Wabag in round 7.
The Mioks host the Mendi Muruks in Wabag this weekend.
Lepa said he anticipated another tough encounter much like the match against the Waghi Tumbe in round 3 in which they managed to scrape home 10-8 at Aipus Oval, Wabag.
