THE Port Moresby Cricket Association hosted its indoor cricket finals on July 18, with Moni Plus Thunders and Pacific International Hospital Surgeons winning the men’s and mixed titles respectively.
Thunders edged Parliament Tambarans and Surgeons defeated Blooming Jets by nine and 35 runs respectively.
President Dean Ani told The National that his association had resumed its eighth season recently following the Covid-19 state of emergency in March.
“Our competition was heavily disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
“Hence, we had to cut short our season by about 48 games and proceed to the finals.
“After receiving approval to resume our season, we had to comply with the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation’s return-to-sports guidelines and Cricket PNG’s (CPNG) standard of procedures.
“We had to advise our corporate teams of the ‘new normal’ and restrictions.
“The competition was a great success. We could not have done it without all the teams, officials and supporters.
“To not comply with the guidelines would have meant no more indoor and outdoor cricket for CPNG and its affiliate associations, so we are grateful.”
Meanwhile, Ani has urged teams to prepare for the association’s outdoor competition which starts next Saturday.
