Morata offseason league gets new president

THE Morata Offseason Rugby League received a Christmas and New Year gift as Finance Department first assistant secretary Samson Metofa was elected as its new president.
On top of that, a K40,000 sponsorship was secured from Motor Vehicles Insurance Limited as the naming-rights sponsor. The league is an affiliate of the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League through the Southern Confederation for 2019-2020 season.
This is significant as most offseason competitions are not affiliated to the national body.
The sponsorship announcement was a first under the leadership of Metofa who has generated confidence in the league, which was established in 1982.
Metofa told The National that he planned to take a professional approach to make sure that public funding was properly acquitted.
“When we do this, the government agencies and corporate sector will have confidence and support the competition in cash or kind,” he said. “This is my first time to be the president but I’m confident and in my two-year tenure, I will set a professional approach for league and make it the best (offseason competition) in the National Capital District.”
The other executives are vice-president Skipa James, secretary Junior Ray Kaima and treasurer John Mawe.
