THE inaugural Rosso Cup Mountain Bike Race is set for Saturday at the National Botanic Gardens in Lae, Morobe.
More than 700 cyclists in and around Lae will be competing for trophies and prizes worth up to K40,000.
Organising committee chairman Ian Ellery said the race was initially scheduled for Sept 19 but was postponed due to heavy rains in the lead-up.
“We’re now on track to deliver the race to showcase our cyclists from ages seven and up,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“I’m sure our Lae community will have a great time watching the race – it’s going to be fun.”
Ellery said registration was continuing this week and encouraged those who had not called in to the gardens, to do so to pick up their number plates before the race.
The race will involve children and adults, with the seniors to take on a longer, tougher track.
The event will also see the wheelchair and corporate-team races.
There will also be a “dash for cash”.
The gates will open for cyclists and the public at 7.30am and 8.30am respectively.
Tickets are on sale now at the Lae City Authority office.
