THE nation’s capital leg of the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge attracted more than 40 teams to the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club on Friday.
On behalf of Prime Minister James Marape, Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Jelta Wong teed off the event, of which The National is a major sponsor.
The annual charity event is one of the major fundraisers of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee.
Funds raised will enable Team PNG to compete in the June 17-25 Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Marianas, and the July 28-Aug 8 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

The two Team PNG contingents will need an estimated budget of K4.5 million to ensure they attend both Games.
Despite the Coronavirus (Covid-19) challenges over the last two years, committee president Sir John Dawanicura said the continued support from corporate organisations was commendable.
“Under the circumstances of Covid-19, we’re extremely fortunate that 47 teams from corporate organisations put their hand up to assist us,” he said.
The Lae leg of the challenge was staged earlier this month.
Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited won the Port Moresby leg.

“It’s for a worthy cause.
“We’re behind the team that’ll represent our country in the Pacific Mini Games and Commonwealth Games.”
Sir John acknowledged the committee’s partners and sponsors for making the event possible.
“I would like to thank our good partners and sponsors for the success of this year’s Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge.”
The sponsors are The National, Ela Motors PNG, Air Niugini, Brian Bell Group, South Pacific Brewery, Coca-Cola Euro Pacific Partners, Theodist, Trophy Haus PNG and Media Partners PNG.
