THE Port Moresby Soccer Association’s sevens tournament held its second round of matches at the Bisini Soccer Ground over the weekend.
Association president Joseph Ealedona told The National that there was an increase in numbers with teams picking up momentum.
“The progress of the tournament has been good so far. Teams are turning up,” he said on Saturday.
“We started slow last week. But since last Sunday, it has been really good.
“The turnout from teams and their supporters has improved and we have a good indication from our gate takings.
“According to our timetable, we want to have at least a month of sevens so we are into our second week now.
“Hopefully, we will finish off the last games next week and the following weekend, we should head into our finals.
“Following that, we hope to have a week off so that we can assess and manage the fields properly before we head into our pre-season.”
Ealedona was also pleased with the turnout from organisations who had registered teams in the tournament and had promised a bigger event next year.
“We have up to seven corporate bodies and government agencies taking part and we’re happy to have them,” he said.
“We’ve just started to get teams in bit by bit and some were late. We had to move forward.
“But hopefully, when we run the sevens next time, we can have more teams taking part.”
