MORESBY South Blacks put the Funeral Home Laumas to sleep 20-6 at Moresby South Stadium on Saturday.
The home side’s 14-point win over the glamour club was built on solid defence and egged on by their vocal fans.
Blacks dominated the exchanges with Junior Hoki a standout in the backs and Brandon Somavi posing a handful in the forward clashes.
The return of halfback Andy Tand and co-captain Joseph Komeli boosted the Blacks attack with fullback Hoki and centres Frazer Anderson and Terence Wemin having a hand in their four tries.
The home side lead 10-0 at half time with tries to Gorden Negi (5th) and Anderson (30th) with Joshua Winnie kicking a goal.
In the second half, Laumas posted their first points in the 60th minute through Yomo Yokapo and Junior Arova converted to make it 10-6.
Blacks iced the contest when Wemin crossed in the 76th minute and Winnie slotted the extras for 16-6 lead.
The final nail in the Laumas’ coffin was driven in by Hoki in the 79th for the final score.
In the end, it was the Blacks more mobile pack and quicker backs that ran rings around the heavier Laumas who had the likes of experienced halves Junior Belo and McKenzie Buka as well as Junior Arova and Gillespie David.
