MORESBY South Rugby League’s top-eight teams across all divisions are expected to be vaccinated against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) at Moresby South Stadium this week.
Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko had said during the launch of the 2021 season that he people involved in the league to be vaccinated but that did not eventuate.
However, the Housing and Urbanisation minister said he was grateful that they were now willing to be vaccinated.
“This is serious,” Tkatchenko said.
“People are dying at the Port Moresby General Hospital and I witnessed that on my visit there.
“As the local MP, I also kindly appeal to my people of Moresby South to get vaccinated for your protection and safety from the Delta variant that is very dangerous to our lives.
“If you are vaccinated, this will help prevent you from transmitting the dreaded virus.”
League deputy chairman Nathan Andes confirmed that a “no jab, no game” policy had been agreed upon by clubs during a delegates meeting recently.
He said the policy would apply to players, team managements, match officials and stadium staff.
“But this doesn’t include supporters,” he said.
Andes said urged all players, team managements and match officials to be punctual for their jabs, which will be administered from tomorrow.
