Minister for Commerce and Industry Wera Mori says the department is facing funding and capacity constraints and needs restructuring.
He said this during launching of the department’s corporate plan 2018-2022 in Port Moresby on Friday.
“We are in desperate need to recruit externally to fill current fully-funded vacant positions in the department,” Mori said.
“Whilst the blue print for the department’s future direction has been attributed in the plan, I also note with much regret that the department has experienced funding and staff shortage over the years.
“This is not only a problem for the Department of Commerce and Industry but an issue confronted by an entire machinery and institutions of government.”
