Morobe DDAs urged to help schools

MOROBE education adviser Keith Tangui has urged the province’s 10 district development authorities (DDA) and their local level governments to assist schools in their respective areas with logistics support and teacher accommodation.
Tangui raised the concern after a number of rural schools in the province reported to the media about their districts lacking logistical support and accommodation.
He pointed out that education was a shared responsibly that was supposed to be carried out by respective authorities.
“The Education Department will send school inspectors, education managers, teachers, principals and head teachers to the schools, but the DDA’s job is to help provide accommodation and logistical support,” he said.
“Those education representatives sent are to educate your people, so play your part in helping the teachers educate your people.
“DDAs must help education in their respective areas so we can see improvement in education.”
Tangui said that inspectors and teachers were reluctant to be deployed to some districts due to unreliable logistical capacity, lack of accommodation and safety issues.
“DDAs and LLGs need to address these issues effectively to allow education workers to do their jobs.”
